Vegetable Cantaloupe 'Hales Best (Heirloom)'

Cantaloupe

This succulent summer favorite has so many health benefits, everyone should grow it.  It is packed with Vitamins A and C and is a good source of potassium.  Cantaloupe plants grow on vines during the spring and summer.  The orange fruit tastes musky yet sweet.  These plants need plenty of space to grow because of their lengthy vines.  Melons should be picked right before they ripen.  They love full, warm sun and rich soil.  They should be planted in rows about 5-6’ apart.  This tender annual will quickly be affected by frost, so if a frosty forecast is predicted, cover it up in order to save your plant.  Also called muskmelon, this tasty fruit is a favorite!
