Pineapple sage is a perennial shrub growing around 36" tall. Plant in well drained fertile soil and in full sun. It has tubular red flowers and an attractive scent to the leaves that is similar to pineapple. It produces numerous erect leafy stems and flowers in the late autumn. The red flowers are attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. Pineapple Sage leaves are edible. An established plant of Pineapple Sage makes its appearance in spring as a mass of shoots arising from the ground. The stems are square and the leaves 2-4” long and slightly downy. Snip leaves from branches and use as needed. Touching and rubbing the leaves releases an unbelievably sweet pineapple scent.
